Tradition Meets Luxury: A Scented Journey at Nandana's Coming of Age Celebration

Held in a beautifully decorated venue filled with warm lighting, vibrant colours, and an atmosphere of pure joy, the night brought together loved ones to honour an important cultural milestone.

Honoring a Milestone Moment

Coming of age celebrations vary across South Asian communities, whether it is a Ritu Kala Samskara, a Half Saree Function, or a Manjal Neerattu Vizha. Each carries its own meaning and traditions, but what they all share is a deep sense of family connection and the recognition of a young woman stepping into a new chapter of life.

Experiencing this celebration was a privilege, as it offered us the chance to learn more about a tradition that holds significance, history, and heart.

A Sensory Experience for Every Generation

We were invited to bring our custom perfume bar to the event, serving more than 150 guests throughout the evening. The room came alive with curiosity as guests explored a curated selection of French-made fragrance oils, choosing their preferred notes and creating a personalised scent that represented the night.

The perfume bar quickly became a place where generations connected. Parents, aunties, cousins, and friends gathered around to design fragrances together, sharing stories, laughing, and comparing creations.

One of Nandana's grandmothers spent a long time at the bar, carefully selecting jasmine and sandalwood before explaining to her grandson that these were the scents she remembered from ceremonies in her own childhood. Nearby, a group school friends turned the experience into a guessing game, trying to identify each other's blends blindfolded while dissolving into laughter.

Bottling Memories as Keepsakes

Soft florals, sweet gourmand blends, and bold woody notes were among the most popular choices. One uncle, encouraged by his daughters to "try something other than your usual cologne for once," ended up proudly wearing a rose and oud creation for the rest of the night.

A younger cousin even asked if she could make two bottles, one for herself and one for her best friend who couldn't attend, so they could smell the same even though they were apart.

Each perfume was finished with a bespoke label featuring the name and event details, turning every bottle into a meaningful keepsake. We watched one guest carefully photograph her label before tucking the bottle safely into her bag, already planning where she would display it at home.

Elevating the Celebration

It was beautiful to see how seamlessly the perfume bar fit into the flow of the celebration. Guests appreciated having something interactive, elegant, and personal to enjoy between the traditional rituals, dancing, and speeches. During quieter moments, small groups would drift over to the bar, and by the time the dancing picked up again, they would leave clutching their creations, ready to join back in.
